Phnom Penh: 7 Cambodian amateur runners participated recently in the
Berlin Marathon 2025 in Berlin, Germany. The 7 Cambodian athletes who competed
in the international event, such as Jim Konghoy, Hong Vanthet, Leng Tong,
Limeng, Kheang, Polew Tola, Sok Heng, and Chea Sotheng.
Ponleur Tola, one of the 7 Cambodian athletes, said that the
reason that urged seven of them to decide to participate in the
international event in the purpose to improve their health and try to compete
with international runners around the world. Most importantly, they wanted to show
Cambodia’s flag on the international stage through the participation of
Cambodian amateur athletes.
Mr. Ponleur Tola further stated that, the participating activity of
non-professional athletes on the international stage has been many times. In
all participating activities, athletes always run with holding the Cambodian
flags, which is a message to the international community that although Cambodia
is a small country, Cambodia is progressive and peaceful and cares deeply about
the well-being of its people.
It should be noted that, the event of Berlin Marathon 2025 in Berlin,
Germany is a 42.195-kilometer marathon with 55,000 international athletes
participating, including 7 Cambodian athletes, while some Cambodian athletes
also participated.
After the marathon in Germany, the following events, the 7
athletes above also plan to participate in the Chicago Marathon in the United
States in October 2025 and the Tokyo Marathon in Tokyo in May 2026.
